There’s nothing quite like it in all of sports. It’s a day where fans come from miles and miles away just to say they experienced it. From the Clydesdales, to “Here Comes the King” playing throughout the stadium, to the Cardinals’ legends, to the bald eagle doing a fly around the ballpark. 2016 also marks the 10th Anniversary of Busch Stadium III.
Opening Day in St. Louis is considered a national holiday by Cardinal Nation. It’s a day I’ve seen numerous times on television, but never in person. The latter ends Monday. I bought tickets for Opening Day for my father for his 50th birthday. Sunday I celebrated my 23rd. Baseball is one of the things that has always brought us together and kept us close over the years.
It should be a good game against the Milwaukee Brewers if the rain holds off. The Cardinals come into their home opener with a 3-3 record after a weekend sweep of the Atlanta Braves. In that series the Cardinals were able to rack up 31 run.
Michael Wacha will make his second start of the season on Monday. He pitched just 4.1 innings allowing 5 runs (4 ER) off 10 hits and only three strikeouts in his first outing against the Pirates.
Coverage of Opening Day starts at noon on Fox Sports Midwest with player introductions starting at 2:30. First pitch is scheduled for 3:15. In some markets the game will also be broadcast on MLB Network and ESPN.
